In a decisive move against terrorism, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) launched an operation on October 29, 2026, targeting suspected terrorist hideouts in Kaduna State. This operation was part of an armed reconnaissance mission aimed at thwarting planned kidnapping activities in the region, particularly around Rijana.

The mission utilized an A-29 Super Tucano aircraft, deployed by the Air Component of Joint Task Force North West, known as Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Sector 1. Intelligence reports had indicated the presence of notorious figures, including Dogo Gide, and his associates in the area, prompting the air operation.

During the reconnaissance, the aircrew conducted extensive aerial surveillance of the identified locations, which were characterized by dense vegetation and incomplete structures. The operation revealed concealed huts and tents where suspected terrorists were believed to be hiding. Following the identification of these positions, the aircrew engaged the targets, while simultaneously relaying their coordinates to another airborne intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance platform for further evaluation.

In addition to targeting the suspected hideouts, the Super Tucano aircraft also provided air cover along the Abuja–Kaduna Main Supply Route and the adjoining railway corridor. This was part of a broader effort to assess the security situation and identify any potential threats. Fortunately, the reconnaissance mission reported no threats along the railway corridor, with normal human and vehicular activities observed along the major supply route.

The operation underscores the NAF's capability to integrate armed reconnaissance with intelligence gathering and route surveillance, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of ongoing joint operations against terrorism. The Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Sector 1, reiterated its commitment to maintaining pressure on terrorist groups through coordinated efforts with other security agencies.

These operations are crucial not only for denying terrorists the freedom to operate but also for protecting critical national infrastructure, safeguarding lives, and restoring peace and security across the operational area. The NAF's proactive approach reflects its determination to combat the ongoing threat of terrorism in Nigeria, particularly in regions like Kaduna that have been vulnerable to such activities.
