Professional boxer Edgar Berlanga has been arrested on charges related to domestic violence following an alleged assault on the mother of his child. The incident reportedly took place on October 18 while Berlanga was driving in Polk County, Florida.

According to court documents reviewed by TMZ, the altercation escalated during a heated argument between Berlanga and the woman. It is alleged that Berlanga struck her with a handgun after initially slapping her. The confrontation became increasingly physical, leading the woman to attempt to exit the vehicle. However, Berlanga allegedly restrained her by grabbing her arm.

In a desperate bid to escape, she managed to break free and sought help at a nearby 7-Eleven, where bystanders contacted law enforcement. Upon arrival, police observed visible signs of injury, including swelling and bruising on her forehead, which corroborated her account of the events.

The woman informed the officers that the firearm used in the incident was real and indicated that they had visited a gun range shortly before the argument. Despite her reluctance to press charges, police proceeded with Berlanga's arrest due to the nature of the allegations, which involved domestic violence.

Berlanga was subsequently booked into Pasco County Jail on two counts related to domestic violence: felony aggravated battery and misdemeanor battery for touching or striking. He made his first court appearance on October 24, where his bond was set at $16,000. As of now, the allegations have not been adjudicated in court.

The boxer, who has a professional record of 24 wins and 2 losses, with 19 of those wins by knockout, is currently signed to Dana White's Zuffa Boxing. Berlanga's recent fights include a notable bout against Canelo Alvarez in September 2024, where he lost by unanimous decision in a contest for the WBA, WBC, and WBO super-middleweight titles. Earlier this year, he headlined a boxing event at Madison Square Garden, defeating Steven Butler by knockout in the seventh round.

As the legal proceedings unfold, there has been no public comment from Berlanga or his representatives regarding the arrest or the allegations made against him.
