The Bauchi State Police Command has successfully apprehended a convicted drug dealer and rescued a minor who was being used as a courier for drug deliveries. This significant operation took place on October 26, 2026, when officers from the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) intercepted the 14-year-old boy, identified as Samuel Nkemakolan Kosi, during a routine patrol.

SP Nafiu Habib, the spokesperson for the Bauchi State Police, reported that Kosi was on his way to deliver a small quantity of a whitish substance suspected to be Ice, a form of Methamphetamine, when he was stopped by the police. Upon questioning, the young boy revealed that he had been sent by 22-year-old Samuel Ogochukwu, a known drug dealer who had previously been convicted.

Following this revelation, police operatives quickly traced and arrested Ogochukwu at his location. A subsequent search of his shop and residence uncovered a significant amount of illicit drugs, including 3.5 grams of Ice, 17 sachets of 100mg Tramadol capsules, and several other controlled substances such as Pregabalin, Diazepam, and Exol tablets. The police also found two wraps of a substance known as "Yellow Boys" and one sachet of "Shine Shine Leather."

During the investigation, Ogochukwu disclosed that he received his drug supplies through waybills from Onitsha in Anambra State. This operation marks the fourth major drug bust conducted by the VCRU within a ten-day period, showcasing the unit's ongoing commitment to combating drug trafficking in the region.

The police have stated that the rescued minor will be treated according to juvenile best practices and will be reunited with his family after receiving proper counseling. Meanwhile, Ogochukwu is set to face charges in court once the investigation is complete.

Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, praised the VCRU for their relentless efforts and effective policing strategies. He emphasized that the recent successes in drug busts and the subsequent convictions serve as a stern warning to those involved in criminal activities. The Commissioner assured the public that the police will continue to intensify their operations against drug trafficking and other forms of crime in Bauchi State.
