In a significant political shift, Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara has requested his supporters to stop referring to him as their leader and instead acknowledge Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, as the common leader of all political factions in the state. This announcement was made during the official unveiling of the Rainbow Coalition at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt on October 27.

Fubara emphasized the importance of unity among the various political groups within the coalition. He addressed his former supporters, urging them to respect the new leadership structure and move beyond the previous hierarchy that placed him at the forefront. "Let me say something here so that it will always help us while we move forward. I'm aware there are some issues where some persons who followed me when we had the crisis, when you're in your meeting, you say, 'My leader, my leader.' We are now in one house. And because we have one house, there is no issue about who is the leader. I might be your oga (governor), but we have a common leader now," Fubara stated.

The Governor's remarks signal a shift in the political landscape of Rivers State, as he seeks to consolidate support for the Rainbow Coalition, which aims to unify various factions under a single leadership. This coalition is seen as a strategic move to strengthen political alliances ahead of future elections.

While Fubara's call for unity is clear, it contrasts with the situation in Imo State, where Governor Hope Uzodimma has dismissed the notion of a similar coalition, stating that there is no Rainbow Coalition in Imo. This highlights the differing political dynamics in the two states as leaders navigate their respective political environments.

As the political climate evolves, Fubara's decision to step back from the title of leader may play a crucial role in shaping the future of governance and political collaboration in Rivers State. His appeal for collective leadership under Wike could pave the way for a more cohesive political strategy moving forward.
