Troops apprehend militia leader during curfew enforcement in Plateau State
A suspected militia member was arrested following clashes with security forces in Plateau.

In a significant security operation, troops from Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) apprehended a suspected member of the Mwaghavul militia, identified as Mr. Hosea David, during a confrontation in the Nchya community of Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State. The incident occurred on October 25, 2026, as security personnel enforced a curfew aimed at curbing violence in the region.
The 53-year-old youth chairman was arrested around 6 p.m. after a group of local youths reportedly resisted the troops and other security agencies. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the youths barricaded roads and hurled stones and other projectiles at the security team. Additionally, sporadic gunfire was heard from concealed positions, prompting the troops to respond with necessary force to restore order.
During the operation, security forces discovered a locally fabricated firearm and nine rounds of 7.62mm ammunition in David's possession. The confrontation also caused damage to a vehicle belonging to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), specifically breaking the driver's door glass.
Currently, David remains in military custody as investigations proceed. The security forces have intensified their presence in the area to prevent further unrest and ensure compliance with the curfew. This operation is part of broader efforts by security agencies to maintain peace and security in Plateau State, which has faced escalating violence in recent months.
In light of the situation, troops are conducting routine patrols across the Joint Operations Area, focusing on safeguarding schools, places of worship, and other critical infrastructure. Officials have reported that the morale and operational efficiency of the troops remain satisfactory, reflecting their commitment to restoring peace in the affected communities.
