A tragic incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in Gwom-Ajang, Foron District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State, where a woman was killed and two others injured while harvesting groundnuts. The attack took place around 4 PM, according to local resident Silas Bitrus, who witnessed the aftermath of the event.

Bitrus confirmed the grim details, stating that the victims were engaged in their agricultural activities when the attack happened. The identity of the deceased has not yet been disclosed, and the injured individuals were promptly taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

The incident has drawn condemnation from various community leaders and organizations. Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders (BYM), expressed outrage over the attack, calling on security forces to take immediate action against the perpetrators. He emphasized the need for heightened security measures to protect farmers in the region, who often face threats while pursuing their livelihoods.

In a related development, the Coalition of Plateau State Indigenous Youth Bodies has raised concerns about a potential counter-propaganda campaign aimed at discrediting the efforts of security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS). The coalition, which includes representatives from various youth organizations, issued a statement following a World Press Conference held on October 21, 2026. They claimed to have received credible information about plans to undermine the operations of security forces in the state.

The coalition's statement, signed by prominent leaders including Amb. Ezekiel Peter Bini and Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, called for vigilance against misinformation. They urged the public to seek independent verification of any claims made against security agencies, affirming their support for the DSS and other law enforcement bodies. The coalition stressed that they will not be swayed by propaganda and remain committed to ensuring the safety of all law-abiding citizens in Plateau State.

As investigations into the attack continue, the community is left grappling with the loss and the ongoing threats faced by farmers in the area. The situation underscores the urgent need for effective security measures to protect vulnerable populations engaged in essential agricultural work.
