Benue SDP Candidate Criticizes JED for Statewide Blackout Punishment
Prof. Sebastine Hon condemns Jos Electricity Distribution for punishing innocent citizens.

The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Benue State, Prof. Sebastine Hon, has condemned the Jos Electricity Distribution Plc (JED) for imposing a total blackout on the state capital as a consequence of its ongoing dispute with the Benue State Government. He described the action as unacceptable and detrimental to the innocent citizens of Benue.
In a statement made in Makurdi over the weekend, Prof. Hon expressed his understanding of the challenges faced by JED but firmly criticized the company's decision to punish the entire state for the conflict. He emphasized that such collateral damage is unjust and warned that it could tarnish the company's reputation.
Prof. Hon argued that the disagreement between JED and the state government should not adversely affect consumers who are already grappling with economic hardships. He urged the electricity distribution company to reconsider its stance and restore power supply to the state capital while seeking legal resolutions to the dispute.
The prolonged blackout, according to Prof. Hon, has severely impacted various sectors, crippling businesses, affecting hospitals, schools, and households. He highlighted the urgent need for JED to act responsibly and prioritize the welfare of the citizens.
The SDP candidate's comments come amid growing frustration among residents of Benue State, who have been left without electricity for an extended period. Many are calling for immediate action to restore power, as the blackout continues to disrupt daily life and economic activities.
Prof. Hon concluded his statement by cautioning JED that their current approach could have lasting negative effects on their corporate image, urging them to find a more equitable solution that does not involve punishing innocent consumers.
