The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended two individuals linked to the tragic deaths of two children in separate incidents across the Alkaleri and Ganjuwa Local Government Areas. The arrests were confirmed by police spokesperson Nafiu Habib in a statement released on Monday.

In the first incident, a 23-year-old stepmother named Fatima Ibrahim from Kwaimawa village is under investigation after her stepson, a young boy, reportedly consumed a beverage she provided. This occurred on October 16, 2026. Following the consumption of the drink, the boy experienced severe vomiting and was initially taken to a Primary Health Care Centre in Kwaimawa. His condition worsened, leading to his transfer to the Federal Medical Centre in Gombe. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his condition on October 24, after battling for his life for eight days.

The police were alerted by the Village Head of Kwaimawa, which led to the swift arrest of Ibrahim as inquiries into the case unfolded.

In a separate case, the lifeless body of a five-year-old girl was discovered in a pit in Badaromo village on October 24. Her grandfather had reported her missing to the police at approximately 7 PM on October 23, prompting a community search. Tragically, her body was found the next morning in a small water pit behind the village.

Investigators from the Soro Division responded to the scene and arrested 19-year-old Sadiku Musa, who resides in the same area, in connection with the girl's death.

Both cases have been forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for comprehensive investigations. The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed deep sorrow over the incidents, describing them as heartbreaking and inhumane. He reassured the families of the deceased children that the police would diligently pursue justice.

“These are innocent souls. Children who looked up to adults for protection. We will ensure that justice speaks for Habiba and Mubarak,” he stated, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance by parents, guardians, and community leaders regarding the safety of children in the region.
