Jordanian authorities have made significant progress in their investigation into a tragic church attack that resulted in the deaths of nine individuals and left dozens injured. On October 25, security forces arrested two brothers and their brother-in-law in connection with the shooting that occurred during a funeral at a Greek Orthodox church in the village of Hamoud, located in the Karak governorate, approximately 120 kilometers southwest of Amman.

The suspects were found hiding in an abandoned house in Al-Jadeeda, a village within the Karak region. According to the Public Security Directorate, the trio initially refused to surrender and engaged in a violent confrontation with security forces. During the exchange, the suspects were wounded before being taken into custody.

Major General Abdullah Al-Maaytah, the Director of Public Security, confirmed the identities of the arrested individuals as Hazza Zaidan Mohammed, Meshal Zaidan Mohammed, and Ahmad Sami Hussein. He stated that the attack was carried out by the two brothers and their relative, underscoring the seriousness of the incident and the swift action taken by law enforcement.

The attack unfolded on Friday when three gunmen opened fire during a funeral service, resulting in the immediate deaths of eight people and injuring around 40 others. As of Monday, 27 of the injured remained hospitalized, with one individual reported to be in critical condition following surgery at the Prince Ali Military Hospital in Karak.

Karak is known for its significant Christian population, which numbers around 300,000 in a country of approximately 11.5 million. This incident has raised concerns about the safety of minority communities in Jordan, a nation that has historically been a refuge for Christians in the region.

The authorities are continuing their investigation into the motives behind the attack, as the community mourns the loss of life and seeks justice for the victims of this heinous act.
