A serious incident occurred on Monday, October 26, 2026, when a storey building collapsed during manual demolition on Adedoyin Street in Ijegun, Ikotun, Lagos State. Reports indicate that one worker is currently trapped beneath the rubble, while another has sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital prior to the arrival of rescue teams.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) received a distress call about the collapse at approximately 1:44 PM and promptly dispatched its Beta Team from the Igando Base to the scene. Upon arrival, the team found the situation dire, with one individual trapped and efforts immediately began to conduct a coordinated search and rescue operation.

LASEMA, in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), has cordoned off the area to ensure safety and facilitate the ongoing rescue efforts. The agency has confirmed that the rescue operation is still in progress, with responders working diligently to free the trapped worker.

In response to the incident, the Lagos State Government announced plans to investigate the causes of the building collapse. Officials emphasized the importance of adherence to building control regulations and have urged developers and contractors to engage certified professionals for demolition and construction activities.

This incident is part of a busy day for LASEMA, which also responded to three other traffic-related emergencies across Lagos on the same day. One notable incident involved a Lexus Jeep that overturned at Iyana Oworo due to reckless driving, resulting in one injury. Additionally, a gas tanker suffered brake failure in Epe, blocking a significant portion of the roadway but fortunately causing no casualties.

Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has commended LASEMA and its partner agencies for their swift response to these emergencies. He reiterated the government's commitment to protecting lives and property, highlighting ongoing investments in an efficient emergency management system to ensure timely responses to such incidents.

Residents are reminded to report emergencies through the state's toll-free numbers and to observe safety regulations while driving and conducting construction work.
