Taraba Governor extends security designation for Karim Lamido after deadly attack
Following a tragic attack that claimed over 30 lives, Taraba's Governor Kefas has renewed security measures in Karim Lamido.

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has announced an extension of the security designation for Karim Lamido Local Government Area for an additional six months. This decision comes in the wake of a brutal attack on the Binnari community, which resulted in the deaths of more than 30 residents and left many families in distress.
The governor made this declaration during an emergency security meeting held at the Executive Chamber of the T.Y. Danjuma House in Jalingo, the state capital, shortly after the attack occurred on October 23, 2026. In his address, Kefas condemned the violence and expressed deep concern for the loss of lives and the trauma inflicted on the affected families.
"We have gathered to mourn those we have lost, support those affected, and agree on the actions required to protect our people," said Kefas. He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to safeguarding lives and property, emphasizing that those responsible for the attack would be pursued relentlessly.
The governor highlighted the importance of maintaining peace in the region, stating, "Our long-standing peace must not be disrupted by those who seek to destroy it." He assured the public that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the criminals behind the attack, who have threatened the security of the area.
In addition to enhancing security measures, Kefas has instructed relevant authorities to account for all missing persons and provide necessary support to the affected individuals and families. He urged security agencies to investigate the attackers' movements, motives, and any potential links to other criminal activities.
Kefas also called for a coordinated security response to protect Binnari and surrounding communities from further violence. He encouraged traditional rulers, ward and village heads, youths, and farmers to share credible information with security agencies through appropriate channels. Furthermore, he urged residents and the media to verify information before dissemination, cautioning against the spread of unconfirmed reports that could escalate tensions in the affected areas.
The governor extended his condolences to the bereaved families and the people of Binnari, praying for the souls of those lost and for comfort to those impacted by the tragedy. The renewed six-month security designation aims to sustain heightened attention in Karim Lamido as the state government works to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among its residents.
