BBNaija star Mike Edwards discovers 48% Igbo heritage through DNA test
Mike Edwards reveals surprising ancestry results, connecting him deeply to Nigeria.

Former Big Brother Naija contestant Mike Edwards has shared an intriguing revelation about his ancestry, revealing that a recent DNA test has shown he is 48% Igbo and 30% Yoruba. This discovery has taken him by surprise, as he had previously identified as half Nigerian and half Jamaican, based on his family background.
Mike Edwards, whose mother has Yoruba roots through his Nigerian grandmother and whose father was born in Jamaica, took to Instagram to announce the results of his AncestryDNA test. He expressed his astonishment at the significant percentage of his Nigerian heritage, which he learned accounted for 78% of his genetic makeup. In his post, he stated, "I've ALWAYS known about my mum's Yoruba heritage, but NEVER imagined my dad's Jamaican roots could have such a strong connection to Igboland, Nigeria!"
One of the most meaningful aspects of this discovery for Mike was the opportunity to share it with his father, who has always felt a connection to Africa. This moment was significant for both of them, as it allowed Mike to explore and embrace a deeper understanding of his family's history.
Despite the newfound insights into his ancestry, Mike remains proud of his Yoruba identity. He humorously noted that he feels as though his Igbo ancestors have been waiting for his acknowledgment, playfully asking his followers for an Igbo name and its meaning. He concluded his post with the rallying cry, "IGBO KWENU!!!" which translates to a call for unity among the Igbo people.
Mike's revelation resonates with many who seek to connect with their roots and understand their heritage more profoundly. His journey highlights the importance of ancestry in shaping identity and the joy of discovering unexpected connections to one's cultural background.
