The Iru Ekun Security Network aims to enhance community safety across the South-West.

Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, known as Sunday Igboho, has officially launched the Iru Ekun Security Network in Ibadan, Oyo State, attracting around 20,000 volunteers to join the initiative. The event took place at the renowned Mapo Hall, where Igboho elaborated on his recent trip to Abuja, aimed at bolstering the security network's operations throughout the South-West region.
The Iru Ekun Security Network is designed to enhance community safety and combat criminal activities in Yorubaland, as well as parts of Kwara and Niger states. This initiative follows similar launches across other South-West states, including Osun, Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, and Ondo, demonstrating a growing commitment to local security. Igboho's media office highlighted that the network has already established collaborations with various security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, and Department of State Services, to address issues such as abductions and killings prevalent in the region.
During the launch, Igboho expressed gratitude for the overwhelming turnout of volunteers, viewing it as a clear indication of public interest in community security. He stated, "The impressive development represents a milestone which indicates the genuine interest of Oyo people in active participation to ensure the safety and security of residents, irrespective of tribe, religion, and political affiliation."
Igboho's recent visit to Abuja was reportedly to discuss the responsibilities of the Iru Ekun Network and to seek ways to enhance its effectiveness. He emphasized that the initiative is supported by traditional rulers in the South-West, particularly acknowledging the role of the Olubadan of Ibadanland in facilitating discussions.
In his remarks, Igboho expressed his gratitude to God and traditional leaders for their support, stating, "I received the call last night to come to Abuja. My Abuja trip was as a result of the collaboration with our traditional ruler."
Furthermore, he urged Nigerians, including members of the Iru Ekun Security Network, to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the upcoming presidential elections and to vote for the All Progressives Congress. This call to action reflects a strategic alignment of the security initiative with political movements in the country, aiming to foster a united front for community safety and political support.
The launch of the Iru Ekun Security Network marks a significant step in local efforts to enhance security and engage communities in safeguarding their environments, as the South-West grapples with various security challenges.
