Community rallies in support as Pastor Joseph Acheampong of Church of Pentecost passes away
Pastor Joseph Acheampong, the Southern Ontario Area Head of the Church of Pentecost in Canada, has died at 62, prompting calls for prayers from the church community.

The Church of Pentecost in Canada is in mourning following the death of Pastor Joseph Acheampong, who served as the Southern Ontario Area Head. He passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at the age of 62. The church announced his passing on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, through an official statement shared on its Facebook page.
In the announcement made on behalf of the church's leadership, including Chairman Apostle Dr. Eric Nyamekye, the church urged its members and well-wishers to support Pastor Acheampong's family during this difficult time. The statement specifically called for prayers for his wife, Mrs. Ama Acheampong, and their four children, which include two sons and two daughters.
Church leaders expressed profound grief over the loss, emphasizing the importance of coming together in solidarity to support the pastor's family and the wider community. The statement concluded with a comforting verse from Psalm 116:15, which reads, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints."
Pastor Acheampong was born in Offinso, located in Ghana's Ashanti Region. He became a member of the Church of Pentecost in 1992 while residing in the Darkuman District of Greater Accra. His commitment to the church led him to take on formal roles starting in 1995, ultimately rising to lead the Southern Ontario Area, a position he held until his untimely passing.
Before dedicating his life to full-time ministry, Pastor Acheampong worked in sales at Heavy Duty Parts, a company based in Toronto. He also served as a diplomat with Alliance Française and was pursuing a degree at Above and Beyond Christian Counselling Academy.
His wife, Mrs. Ama Sekyere Acheampong, is a registered nurse with academic credentials from Humber College and the University of New Brunswick. She also holds a master’s degree in leadership from Trinity University of Vancouver. The couple's family and the church community are now left to navigate the grief of losing a beloved leader and mentor.
As tributes pour in from across the church and beyond, the Church of Pentecost Canada is calling for unity in prayer and support for the Acheampong family during this extraordinarily painful time.
