Kogi Police investigate tragic double shooting involving officers on duty
A male officer allegedly kills his female colleague before taking his own life in Kogi.

The Kogi State Police Command has initiated an investigation following a tragic incident that resulted in the deaths of two officers from the Ajaokuta Police Division. On Friday, October 23, Amos Yusuf reportedly shot his colleague, Grace Onimisi, before turning the gun on himself with an AK-47 rifle.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, Saliu Oyiza Afusat, both officers were on night duty when the shooting occurred. They were quickly transported to nearby medical facilities, but unfortunately, medical personnel confirmed them dead upon arrival. Their bodies have since been placed in the mortuary at ASCO Hospital.
At the scene, authorities recovered one AK-47 rifle along with four expended cartridges, indicating the severity of the incident. The police have since transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
While there are reports suggesting that Yusuf and Onimisi may have been in a romantic relationship and possibly had a disagreement prior to the incident, the police have urged the public to refrain from jumping to conclusions. The statement emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and that the motives behind the tragic event have yet to be established.
This incident has raised concerns about the mental health and safety of police officers, especially those working in high-stress environments. The Kogi State Police Command has promised to provide updates as the investigation progresses, highlighting their commitment to uncovering the truth behind this unfortunate event.
