Authorities in Bangkok, Thailand, have apprehended two Nigerian nationals in connection with a significant cocaine trafficking operation. The arrests were made during a crackdown by immigration police, who seized a total of 103 grammes of cocaine along with equipment believed to be used for diluting the drug with chalk and baking soda.

The operation, which took place on October 16, 2026, was led by Pol Maj Gen Kongchat Leangsomsap, head of Immigration Division 1, in collaboration with the Office of the Narcotics Control Board. The first suspect, a 42-year-old man, was arrested after allegedly selling cocaine to an undercover agent in the Nawamin area of Bangkok. Following his arrest, he reportedly disclosed that he had sourced the cocaine from another Nigerian man, aged 43, who was subsequently apprehended at a nearby apartment.

During a search of the second suspect's residence, police discovered approximately 101 grammes of cocaine. Authorities stated that he confessed to purchasing chalk and baking soda, which he intended to mix with the cocaine to increase his profits from sales.

In addition to the two arrests related to drug trafficking, a third Nigerian national, aged 21, was detained at a restaurant in Nawamin for allegedly overstaying his visa. This individual is not connected to the drug operation but was taken into custody during the police's broader enforcement efforts.

The crackdown highlights ongoing efforts by Thai authorities to combat drug trafficking and immigration violations, particularly in areas frequented by foreign nationals. As investigations continue, police are expected to delve deeper into the network surrounding these arrests to uncover any further links to drug distribution in the region.
