Investigation launched as Lagos police officers detained for alleged harassment in Ikorodu
Four police officers have been detained following a viral video showing them harassing a young man.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, has taken decisive action by ordering the detention of four officers from the Imota Tactical Team. This decision follows the emergence of a viral video that captured the officers allegedly harassing a young man in Odogunyan, Ikorodu.
During a press briefing at the command headquarters in Ikeja, police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi confirmed that the officers have been placed in custody as investigations proceed. The commissioner emphasized that the tactical team has been disbanded pending further inquiries and disciplinary actions against the implicated officers.
The incident came to light when the video circulated widely on social media, prompting an immediate response from the police. Commissioner Fatai stated that the investigation was initiated promptly after the video was identified, leading to the swift action against the officers involved. He expressed gratitude to community members who assisted in identifying the officers, highlighting the importance of public cooperation in such matters.
"All four officers are in custody, while disciplinary proceedings and further enquiries are expected to follow," Fatai remarked, assuring the public that any officer found guilty of misconduct would face appropriate consequences. He reiterated the commandβs commitment to upholding citizens' rights and ensuring accountability within the police force.
Adebisi further stressed that the Lagos State Police Command will continue to take strong disciplinary measures against any officer who acts contrary to the directives issued by the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu. She encouraged residents to report any instances of police misconduct, reinforcing the command's dedication to transparency and accountability.
The detention of these officers and the disbandment of their team come at a time when public scrutiny of police conduct is intensifying, particularly in light of recent allegations of misconduct circulating on social media. The police have reiterated that wearing a uniform does not grant officers the right to intimidate or violate the rights of citizens, and that no officer will be shielded from accountability for their actions.
