The Nigerian military has launched a series of successful air strikes in Borno State, leading to the neutralisation of over 40 terrorists, including a prominent commander of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). These operations, conducted under Operation HADIN KAI, are aimed at disrupting terrorist activities and preventing planned attacks on military positions and local communities.

On October 10, 2026, the Air Component of the Joint Task Force (North East) executed a precision strike on a terrorist enclave located in Badu Village, south of Gudumbali in Guzamala Local Government Area. According to a statement from Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, the operation was initiated following credible intelligence reports indicating a concentration of ISWAP fighters preparing for coordinated assaults on troops operating within Sector 3.

The air strike not only neutralised over 40 terrorists but also destroyed significant assets used by the group, including two vehicles and approximately 20 motorcycles. These resources were crucial for the terrorists' mobility and logistics, and their destruction is expected to severely impair the operational capabilities of ISWAP in the region.

In a related operation, the military also targeted a structure believed to be used by terrorists, reportedly neutralising about eight suspected fighters. Security analyst Zagazola Makama revealed that this strike was based on intelligence indicating a potential attack on military troops. The operation involved aerial surveillance that tracked several suspected fighters in the area, leading to a precision strike that destroyed the targeted structure.

While the DailyPost reported the neutralisation of eight suspected terrorists, Vanguard News provided a more extensive account of the air strikes, detailing the neutralisation of over 40 fighters and the destruction of their operational assets. This discrepancy highlights the ongoing efforts by the military to combat terrorism in the region, with both operations contributing to the broader strategy of dismantling terrorist networks and ensuring the safety of local communities.

The Joint Task Force North East has reiterated its commitment to conducting relentless air and ground operations to eliminate terrorist threats and restore peace and stability in the Northeast. This recent success underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations in addressing the security challenges posed by terrorist groups in Nigeria.
