Family of Air Force crash victim accuses NAF of negligence and miscommunication
The brother of a deceased Nigerian Air Force sergeant claims the military operated a faulty aircraft, leading to a tragic crash.

The brother of a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) sergeant who tragically lost her life in a recent plane crash has publicly accused the military of negligence, alleging that the aircraft involved was faulty before takeoff. In a heartfelt video that has since gone viral, he expressed his outrage over what he perceives as the NAF's attempts to misrepresent the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to the grieving brother, the aircraft had developed a technical fault during its journey from Abuja and had made a stop in Benin City, Edo State, for repairs. He vehemently questioned the NAF's characterization of the flight as a routine mission, insisting that the circumstances were far more serious. "Who flies a faulty aircraft? The Nigerian Air Force. They flew a faulty aircraft that crashed, and now they have lied about it," he stated.
The sergeant’s brother, who identified himself as the next of kin, lamented the lack of communication from the NAF following the crash, which he described as an avoidable tragedy that has left multiple families in mourning. He revealed that his sister had sent him messages just before the flight, indicating that there were issues with the aircraft, which he believes are crucial to understanding the events leading up to the crash.
He detailed that the aircraft had stopped in Benin City for checks after experiencing a snag, a term he used to describe a technical or mechanical fault. "They were asked to wait overnight before continuing their journey," he explained, questioning why the NAF allowed the flight to proceed despite the known issues.
The brother also raised concerns about the financial struggles faced by military personnel, including his sister, who he claimed often had less than ₦17,000 in her account despite serving for over 11 years. He expressed disbelief that a sergeant could be in such a precarious financial situation, highlighting the delays in salary payments that he believes contribute to the hardships faced by service members. "How does a sergeant in the Nigerian Air Force not have ₦17,000 in their account?" he asked.
In his emotional appeal, he recounted how he had sent his sister money just minutes before the aircraft took off, expressing regret that she had boarded the flight. He also criticized the NAF for failing to provide timely information to the families of the victims, stating that he had not received any updates despite being the next of kin.
The brother's allegations extend beyond the crash itself, as he called for greater scrutiny of the NAF's operations and the welfare of its personnel. He urged Nigerians to look into the frequency of military aircraft crashes in recent years, suggesting that the NAF has a history of mishandling aircraft maintenance and personnel welfare.
As the investigation into the crash continues, the brother has pledged to assist the NAF with any inquiries, asserting that he possesses evidence regarding the aircraft's journey and condition. He concluded his remarks by demanding accountability from the NAF leadership, insisting that the military must address the systemic issues that led to this tragedy and ensure the safety and well-being of its personnel.
The allegations made in the viral video have yet to be independently verified, and the NAF has not publicly responded to the claims as of the time of this report.
