The Oyo State police have arrested a man who reportedly traveled from Anambra State with intentions to avenge his brother’s death. The suspect was apprehended during a routine stop and search operation conducted by the Safer Highway Patrol on Ife Road, where police discovered a pistol and a cartridge in his possession.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olushola Olayinka, the suspect's behavior during questioning raised suspicions that he was on a mission of revenge. The man, who was traveling in a commercial bus, confirmed that he had come to Oyo State after learning that the individual he believed was responsible for his brother's death was residing there.

In a recorded statement, the suspect explained that he was working in Benue State when he received the tragic news about his brother’s death at a school in Oka. He stated, "I had information that he just died in the school. That somebody killed him in the school." This devastating news prompted him to return home, but shortly after, he faced another loss when his mother also passed away.

The suspect revealed that he had received information about the alleged killer's whereabouts in Oyo State, which motivated his journey. He expressed his determination to confront the person he believed was responsible for his brother's demise, saying, "Last month, I had information that the boy is living in a state, Yoruba State. I said I will find out that place where he is living."

During the police interrogation, he admitted to purchasing the firearm for ₦20,000 from a friend, whom he described as possibly being a hunter. Additionally, when questioned about his affiliation with cult groups, he acknowledged being a member of the Vikings confraternity but was uncertain about his brother's involvement, stating, "Maybe he belongs, maybe he does not belong because I was not there with him. I was not in the same school with him."

Police officials are currently investigating the suspect further to uncover the full extent of his connections and the circumstances surrounding the alleged revenge plot. Olayinka commended the officers involved in the operation for their diligence in intercepting the suspect and ensuring public safety. The investigation is ongoing as authorities aim to clarify all details related to this alarming incident.
