The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended an 83-year-old woman, Mrs. Uloma Uchechi Sunday, in Abia State for allegedly possessing methamphetamine and Colorado. This arrest occurred on October 7, 2026, at her home in Ite-Uzo, Umuaguma, Obingwa Local Government Area, just a year after she was convicted for a similar crime.

During the operation, NDLEA officials discovered the drugs concealed around her waist, wrapped with a cloth. The agency stated that her arrest was prompted by credible intelligence indicating that she was running a drug joint frequented by individuals involved in criminal activities that threaten local residents.

This is not Mrs. Sunday’s first encounter with the law. On May 17, 2025, she was arrested alongside her daughter, Chisom Uchechi, at the same location. At that time, authorities seized 50 grams of methamphetamine, 522 grams of skunk, 260 grams of fresh cannabis leaves, and 12 grams of tramadol. Both women pleaded guilty and were sentenced to 12 months in prison or a fine of N200,000 each, which they paid, leading to their release.

The NDLEA described Mrs. Sunday as a notorious figure in the drug trade, stating that she returned to her illicit activities shortly after her release, escalating her operations by establishing a drug joint that harbors dangerous individuals.

In a broader crackdown on drug trafficking, the NDLEA has reported several significant seizures across the country. In Rivers State, a South African woman, Gebashe Sithandiwe Jessie, was detained at the Port Harcourt International Airport with 30 parcels of Thai Loud, a type of cannabis, weighing 32.74 kg. She had arrived from Thailand via Doha and confessed to previous drug trafficking activities in other African nations.

Additionally, in Lagos, NDLEA operatives intercepted a shipment containing 354,000 tablets of Tapentadol weighing 307.20 kg, which had arrived from Pakistan. This operation was part of a broader effort that also led to the arrest of several individuals connected to a consignment of 70 parcels of Colorado weighing 75.90 kg.

The agency's operations have extended to various states, with significant drug busts reported in Cross River, Edo, Ondo, Taraba, and Kano states. Notably, in Taraba, Abdulrasheed Mohamed and Abubakar Saidu were arrested with 166,200 tablets of Tramadol, while in Kano, Yahaya Musa was found with nearly 25,000 capsules of Tramadol and other narcotics.

The NDLEA continues to intensify its efforts to combat drug trafficking and related crimes, underscoring the agency's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Nigerian communities.
