Ekiti's Future Economy: Ex-Governorship Candidate Calls for Sustainable Growth
Tope Adebayo emphasizes the need for Ekiti State to create an economy that benefits future generations.

Tope Adebayo, a legal practitioner and former governorship candidate in Ekiti State, has called for the establishment of an economy that will provide opportunities for future generations. Speaking at a recent event in Ado Ekiti to commemorate the state's 30th anniversary, Adebayo highlighted the importance of building on the foundations laid by previous administrations to ensure sustainable development.
Adebayo, who is also a member of the State Economic Management Team appointed by Governor Biodun Oyebanji, stressed that the current generation must focus on creating a 'Land of Opportunity' rather than merely a 'Land of Honour.' He emphasized the need for a holistic approach that connects education, skills, infrastructure, and entrepreneurship to job creation, market access, and wealth generation.
In his keynote address, Adebayo remarked, "The ultimate measure of the stateβs development should not be the number of successful people it has produced, but how many more people can have the opportunity to become successful." He underscored the responsibility of the present generation to reinforce the economic foundations that have been established over the past 30 years.
Reflecting on the history of Ekiti, Adebayo acknowledged the contributions of successive administrations in the state's development. He noted that each administration has played a role in laying the groundwork for future progress, stating, "One administration lays a foundation; another builds upon it. One strengthens the structure while another comes along with a mandate for expansion."
The former governorship candidate praised the achievements of the Oyebanji administration, citing improvements in fiscal transparency, increased internally generated revenue, and significant investments in roads and transport infrastructure as indicators of progress. He commended the government for its commitment to consolidating these advancements and enhancing the business environment in Ekiti.
Adebayo also called for greater collaboration among various sectors, including the executive, legislature, judiciary, traditional institutions, and the private sector. He emphasized that sustainable development can only be achieved when these institutions work together while maintaining their constitutional roles.
Furthermore, he recognized the efforts of the State House of Assembly in strengthening legislative processes, including the remodeling of the Assembly complex and the digitalization of its operations. Adebayo's remarks serve as a reminder of the ongoing need for strategic planning and cooperation in building a prosperous future for Ekiti State.
