Former Senator Shehu Sani has called on candidates who have been excluded from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) lists to refrain from pursuing legal actions. His remarks come in the wake of a recent Supreme Court ruling that upheld INEC's decision to omit certain candidates from its official lists.

In a post shared on X, Sani emphasized that the Supreme Court's ruling is definitive and that continuing to contest the decision would be an exercise in futility. He stated, "Affected candidates should not waste their money, time and energy fighting a lost battle." This advice aims to help candidates avoid unnecessary legal expenses and emotional strain.

Sani further urged legal practitioners, including Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), to show compassion towards these candidates by discouraging them from initiating further lawsuits. He expressed concern that legal representatives might mislead candidates into incurring additional costs through fresh legal actions.

He stated, "I also wish to appeal to those Barristers and SANs to ‘pity’ those candidates and allow them to rest, and not mislead them into spending more money filing fresh suits." This plea highlights the financial burden that litigation can impose on individuals already facing setbacks in their political aspirations.

The former senator encouraged the candidates to accept their current situation and focus on future political opportunities. He pointed out that the electoral cycle is temporary, advising candidates to prepare for the next election rather than dwell on their exclusion. "Four years will come and go; let them strategise for the future," he said, emphasizing the importance of resilience in politics.

Sani's comments reflect a broader sentiment among political observers who believe that candidates should prioritize long-term strategies over immediate legal battles. As the political landscape continues to evolve, many are looking ahead to the next electoral cycle, where new opportunities may arise for those currently sidelined.
