The Court of Appeal in Abuja has confirmed Abdulghani Arobo as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Owo-Ose Federal Constituency in Ondo State, following a ruling that dismissed an appeal challenging a previous Federal High Court decision. This ruling solidifies Arobo's position ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In May 2026, the APC held its primary election for the Owo-Ose Federal Constituency, but the party did not officially announce the results. Subsequently, Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court intervened, declaring Arobo the victor based on his majority of lawful votes cast during the primary. The court directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Arobo as the party's candidate and to reopen its candidate nomination portal for the submission of his name.

The decision by Justice Lifu was contested by four other aspirants from the primary, who filed separate applications to join the proceedings in the Court of Appeal. They sought to overturn the lower court's ruling, arguing against the legitimacy of Arobo's declared victory.

However, the three-member panel of the appellate court found no merit in their appeal and upheld the Federal High Court's ruling. The Court of Appeal concluded that Justice Lifu had acted correctly in his determination and that the order directing INEC to list Arobo as the APC candidate was lawful.

With this latest ruling, Arobo is now firmly positioned as the APC candidate for the Owo-Ose Federal Constituency, setting the stage for his participation in the upcoming elections. This decision is seen as a critical moment for the APC as it prepares for the electoral contests ahead.

The case highlights ongoing tensions within the APC regarding candidate selections, as seen in other recent disputes, including a separate legal challenge involving Rochas Okorocha and Hope Uzodimma regarding the Imo West senatorial candidacy. Such disputes underscore the complexities and challenges that political parties face in managing internal elections and candidate nominations as they gear up for the 2027 general elections.
