The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended four individuals following a deadly clash between farmers and herders in Guda Village, located in the Ningi Local Government Area. The incident resulted in the death of a 40-year-old farmer, Usman Jibrin, who succumbed to injuries sustained during the altercation.

The confrontation reportedly began on September 23, 2026, when three farmers discovered herds of cattle belonging to a local herder grazing on their crops at Guda Hill. In an attempt to protect their livelihood, the farmers chased the cattle back to the herders' settlement, which led to a heated argument that escalated into violence. During the clash, the farmers sustained injuries, prompting a retaliatory response from some youths in Guda Village, who then set fire to several houses in the herders' settlement.

Nafiu Habib, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that police operatives from the Ningi Division swiftly intervened to restore order and transported the injured individuals to the General Hospital in Ningi for medical care. Unfortunately, Jibrin later died while receiving treatment for his injuries.

In the wake of the violence, police launched an investigation and, through intelligence-led efforts, arrested four suspects on October 8, 2026. The suspects are facing serious charges, including criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, mischief by fire, and culpable homicide. The state Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

This incident highlights the ongoing tensions between farmers and herders in Nigeria, which have been exacerbated by issues related to land use and resource management. Authorities are urging community leaders to promote dialogue and peaceful coexistence to prevent further violence in the region.
