FCT Police Launch Investigation Over Alleged N450k Bribe Demand from Fraud Victim
The Commissioner of Police in the FCT has initiated an inquiry into claims of bribery involving police officers.

The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has ordered an immediate investigation into serious allegations that police officers demanded a mobilisation fee of N450,000 from a citizen reporting a case of fraud. The claims surfaced after social commentator Timothy Gabriel shared his experience on Instagram, stating that his friend was defrauded of N1 million by a mechanic and faced demands for payment when they approached the police for assistance at the Garki police station.
In a statement issued on October 8 by the FCT Police Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the police acknowledged the allegations and emphasized their commitment to integrity and accountability. The statement clarified that the police do not condone any form of solicitation or demand for payment from citizens seeking to report crimes or receive assistance from law enforcement.
The statement detailed that CP Sanusi has tasked the relevant authorities within the police force to thoroughly investigate the claims made by Gabriel. The police are determined to identify any officers implicated in this alleged misconduct, stating that any officer found guilty will face disciplinary action in accordance with the Police Act and Regulations.
The police command also urged Timothy Gabriel to come forward with any additional information that could assist in the investigation. They provided a contact number, 08180382808, encouraging him to reach out directly to the Command Headquarters.
These allegations have raised concerns about police conduct and the integrity of the law enforcement system in the FCT. Citizens expect police officers to operate with professionalism and uphold the law without demanding financial incentives for their services. The outcome of this investigation could have significant implications for public trust in the police force, as well as for the officers involved.
As the investigation unfolds, the FCT Police Command is under scrutiny to ensure that justice is served and that any wrongdoing is addressed appropriately, reinforcing their commitment to protecting the rights of citizens and maintaining law and order in the capital city.
