Delta State Revenue Service alerts taxpayers on fraudulent tax collectors
Taxpayers in Delta State are urged to remain vigilant against fake tax notices and collectors.

The Delta State Internal Revenue Service (DSIRS) has issued a warning to taxpayers regarding the increasing incidence of fraudulent tax demand notices and illegal revenue collectors operating under the guise of the state government. Solomon Ighrakpata, the Chairman of DSIRS, made this announcement in a statement released on Tuesday, emphasizing the potential financial risks posed by these fraudulent activities.
Ighrakpata highlighted that the DSIRS has not authorized any individual or agent to issue tax demand notices or collect taxes outside of its established and approved channels. He stated, "The DSIRS wishes to categorically state that it has not authorised any individual or unauthorised agent to issue tax demand notices or collect taxes on its behalf outside established and approved channels."
The chairman urged taxpayers and business owners to exercise caution and verify the legitimacy of any tax demand notices or payment requests they receive. He stressed the importance of utilizing only officially approved government payment channels to avoid falling victim to scams. Ighrakpata also encouraged the public to report any suspicious tax demands or individuals claiming to represent the DSIRS.
In response to the rising threat of tax fraud, the DSIRS is collaborating with law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute individuals involved in issuing fake tax notices and impersonating tax officials. Ighrakpata warned that these fraudulent activities not only threaten the integrity of the state's tax system but also risk diverting funds that are essential for government projects and public services.
The DSIRS remains committed to safeguarding the integrity of Delta State's revenue collection system and ensuring transparent and accountable tax administration. Taxpayers are reminded to stay vigilant and informed to protect themselves from potential scams that could lead to financial losses.
