Two separate incidents in Jigawa State have resulted in the deaths of two individuals, with police arresting suspects linked to both cases.

Jigawa State has witnessed a tragic turn of events as two individuals lost their lives in separate incidents involving arson and stabbing. The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrests of two suspects connected to these violent acts, which occurred in the Gwaram and Dutse Local Government Areas.
The first incident took place on September 29, 2026, when 27-year-old Abbas Ibrahim allegedly set fire to his elder brother's home in Nassarawa village, Gwaram LGA. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, Ibrahim entered the residence by jumping over the fence and reportedly poured petrol inside the room before igniting it. The fire left his brother, Basiru Shuaibu, 25, and his wife with severe burns. They were taken to a traditional healer for treatment, but sadly, Basiru succumbed to his injuries while receiving care. Following the incident, police launched an investigation that led to Ibrahim's arrest in Sara town, Gwaram LGA. He has since been arraigned in court.
In a separate case, a stabbing incident occurred on October 1, 2026, involving 20-year-old Lawisi Safiyanu from Chamo village. The altercation arose over a N500 balance related to a mobile phone sale. The victim, 25-year-old Muhammad Abba, had purchased a handset for N1,500, paying N1,000 upfront and leaving a balance of N500. During the dispute, Safiyanu allegedly stabbed Abba with a knife. The victim was rushed to Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital in Dutse but unfortunately died while receiving treatment. Safiyanu was arrested shortly after, and the weapon used in the attack was recovered. He is now facing charges in court as the investigation has concluded.
The Jigawa State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to addressing criminal activities in the region. SP Adam emphasized that offenders will face the full weight of the law, aiming to deter future crimes. The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, has urged residents to maintain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands. He also encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities or disputes to the police or relevant security agencies promptly.
These incidents highlight ongoing concerns regarding safety and security in Jigawa State, prompting calls for increased vigilance and cooperation between the police and community members.
