A 27-year-old man has been arrested in Jigawa for allegedly setting his brother and sister-in-law on fire, resulting in one death.

The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended a 27-year-old man, Abbas Ibrahim, following a tragic incident that led to the death of his elder brother, Basiru Shuaibu, in Gwaram Local Government Area. The incident reportedly took place on September 29, 2026, around 11:30 PM in Nassarawa village.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, Abbas allegedly entered his brother's home, poured petrol inside the room, and ignited the fire. This horrific act resulted in severe burns for both Basiru and his wife. Following the incident, relatives took the victims to a traditional medicine practitioner for treatment, but unfortunately, Basiru succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
In the wake of this incident, police operatives initiated an investigation that led to Abbas's arrest in Sara town, also within Gwaram LGA. The case has since been escalated to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for further inquiry and legal proceedings.
Abbas has been charged and is currently facing prosecution in court. The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, has urged the community to remain calm and avoid taking justice into their own hands. He emphasized the importance of reporting any suspicious activities, threats, or disputes to the police or other relevant security agencies to prevent further violence and ensure community safety.
