Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, has reaffirmed his dedication to President Bola Tinubu's re-election campaign for the 2027 elections. Speaking at town hall meetings with the Rumueme and Apara kingdoms in the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Wike stated that securing Tinubu's second term is his primary political focus.

During his address, Wike criticized the opposition alliance led by Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, labeling their joint ticket as a "joint ticket of corruption." He expressed doubt about their ability to meet the 25% vote requirement in Rivers State, underscoring the strength of Tinubu's support in the region.

Wike specifically targeted Atiku Abubakar, condemning his recent remarks encouraging voters to accept money from the ruling party, which he claimed undermined Atiku's previously stated anti-corruption stance. "When I saw Atiku on television yesterday, asking Nigerians to take any money given to them by people from the party in power, that it will be stolen money, I said haa, Atiku is now an apostle of anti-corruption?" Wike questioned, pointing out the former vice president's controversial history.

The FCT Minister went on to emphasize his deep commitment to Tinubu's administration, stating, "Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president's reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president's reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the president's reelection." He expressed confidence that the upcoming electoral campaign would be less challenging than the previous one in 2023.

In addition to targeting Atiku, Wike dismissed other opposition figures, including Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), as unelectable, reinforcing his belief that Tinubu's administration will continue to enjoy robust support in Rivers State.

Wike's remarks reflect a strategic alignment with Tinubu's political agenda, as he highlighted federal appointments and developmental projects aimed at benefiting Rivers State as evidence of the current administration's commitment to the region. His proactive stance and public declarations signal a concerted effort to galvanize support for Tinubu's re-election bid as the 2027 elections approach.
