A tragic incident occurred on Sunday morning at Abijo Bus Stop in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State, where a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Kamoru Omokoye, was shot dead by suspected cultists. The attack, which took place around 9 am, has raised alarm over the increasing violence attributed to cult groups in the region.

Witnesses reported that two men, believed to be cult members, arrived at the bus stop in an unregistered Lexus RX 350 before launching their attack. They shot Omokoye in the head and fled the scene immediately afterward. According to a police source, the victim was quickly transported to the Federal Medical Centre in Epe, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Naija Confra, an anti-cultism advocacy platform, revealed that Omokoye, also known as Zobo, was seated at a local gin-selling spot when the assailants opened fire. The attack not only claimed Omokoye's life but also left at least three others injured by gunfire as they attempted to escape the scene.

Omokoye had previously worked at Awoyaya Bus Stop before moving to GRA Bus Stop. He was a father to an eight-month-old child, adding to the tragedy of his untimely death. The police have initiated an investigation into the incident, with detectives combing the area for any leads on the suspects.

This incident follows a recent spate of violence in the community, highlighting the ongoing threat posed by cult groups. Just last month, a mechanic named Samson was murdered after being lured under the guise of a car repair job, indicating a disturbing trend of targeted attacks in the area.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the shooting and assured that efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible for this heinous act. The community remains on edge as residents call for increased security measures to combat the rising tide of violence linked to cult activities.
