Oyo APM gubernatorial candidate vows to enhance support for teachers
Bimbo Adekanmbi pledges to strengthen education policies for teachers in Oyo State.

Bimbo Adekanmbi, the governorship candidate for the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) in Oyo State, has made a strong commitment to support and enhance the education sector, particularly focusing on the welfare of teachers. This pledge comes as the world celebrates the 2026 Teachers’ Day, a day dedicated to recognizing the vital role educators play in shaping future generations.
In a statement released in Ibadan by Yinka Oladoyinbo, the APM's Director of Communication, Adekanmbi emphasized the importance of teachers, referring to them as the true architects of the nation. He expressed admiration for their dedication and the significant impact they have on the educational landscape, stating that the quality of a nation is intrinsically linked to the caliber of its educators.
Adekanmbi highlighted the recent achievements of Oyo State in education, noting that it now ranks third in the country according to the National Examinations Council's performance metrics. He attributed this success to the hard work and professionalism of teachers, who have been instrumental in driving educational improvements in the state.
"As we celebrate this year’s Teachers’ Day, I honour the incredible men and women who shape minds, build character, and light the path to a brighter future," Adekanmbi stated, acknowledging the multifaceted role teachers play beyond just delivering academic content. He praised their ability to instill resilience, kindness, and critical thinking in students, which he believes are essential qualities for future leaders.
Adekanmbi assured teachers that if elected in the upcoming 2027 governorship elections, he would continue the policies established by the current administration under Governor Seyi Makinde. He promised to maintain the timely payment of salaries, including the well-known 'GSM Day' on the 25th of each month, and to uphold various allowances and incentives such as the 27.5 percent teaching allowance and bonuses.
Furthermore, he committed to expanding leadership opportunities for educators, including roles as Permanent Secretaries and Tutors General, ensuring that teachers receive the respect and support they deserve. Adekanmbi's vision includes not only sustaining existing programs but also introducing new reforms aimed at empowering teachers and enhancing the overall educational framework in Oyo State.
"Teachers are the architects of Oyo’s future, and under Omituntun 3.0, they will continue to receive the respect, support, and opportunities they deserve," he concluded, underscoring his dedication to prioritizing education and the welfare of teachers in his administration's agenda.
