INEC alerts Nigerians to fraudulent voter registration website
The Independent National Electoral Commission has issued a warning about a fake website misleading voters.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a serious warning to Nigerians regarding a fraudulent website that falsely claims to facilitate online voter registration. In a public notice released on Saturday, INEC identified the website, pvc-inecnigeria-org.blogspot.com, as a deceptive platform that is not affiliated with the commission.
The fake site purports to offer a nationwide voter registration window from September 28 to October 27, 2026, which INEC has confirmed is entirely untrue. According to the commission, the official voter registration exercise concluded on July 26, 2026, and there is no current online registration taking place.
INEC has urged the public to avoid clicking on the link or providing any personal information on the fraudulent site, warning that doing so could lead to the unauthorized harvesting or misuse of sensitive personal data. The commission emphasized the importance of verifying electoral information through official channels to prevent falling victim to scams.
In its notice shared on social media platform X, INEC stated, "Members of the public are strongly advised not to click on the link or submit any personal information on the website, as doing so may expose them to the risk of having their sensitive personal data harvested or misused."
The misleading website claims to offer various services, including updating voter registration details, transferring registration to different polling units, and replacing lost or damaged permanent voter cards (PVCs). It further asserts that these services are free, which adds to the deception.
INEC has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the integrity of the electoral process and has encouraged Nigerians to remain vigilant against such fraudulent activities. The commission continues to remind the public to rely solely on its official communication channels for accurate electoral information, particularly as the nation approaches future elections.
As the digital landscape evolves, the risk of encountering scams increases, making it crucial for voters to stay informed and cautious about where they share their personal information. INEC’s warning serves as a timely reminder for all citizens to be proactive in safeguarding their data and ensuring they are engaging with legitimate sources regarding voter registration and electoral processes.
