The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Auwalu Mahmuda, has issued a strong directive to troops stationed at newly established formations in Oyo and Osun states, emphasizing the need for professionalism and discipline in their conduct. This call to action came during his recent visits to the newly inaugurated Headquarters 7 Brigade in Oyo and the 137 Battalion in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

During the visit, which aimed to ensure a smooth operational start for the new units, Mahmuda highlighted the expectations of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, who insists on exemplary behavior from all personnel. The GOC warned that any form of unprofessional conduct would not be tolerated, reinforcing the Army's commitment to maintaining a positive image.

Lt. Col. Jonah Danjuma, the Acting Deputy Director of 2 Division Army Public Relations, reported that Mahmuda urged the troops to be proactive and disciplined in their duties. He stressed the importance of fostering effective civil-military relations with the communities they serve, a key aspect of the Army's operational ethos.

Mahmuda also addressed the troops regarding the establishment of these new formations, stating that they are part of a strategic initiative to tackle contemporary security challenges facing the nation. He reiterated the Army's commitment to improving the welfare of its personnel under the Soldiers First Concept, urging the soldiers to reciprocate this support by diligently performing their duties and ensuring that criminal elements are kept at bay.

Upon his arrival in Ile-Ife, Mahmuda was warmly received by the Commanding Officer of the 137 Battalion, Lt.-Col. Christopher Okwujiako. Community leaders in Ile-Ife, led by Sooko Adegboyega Ogunwusi, expressed their gratitude to the Nigerian Army for the establishment of the 137 Battalion in their locality, viewing it as a significant step towards enhancing security in the region.

This visit by the GOC is part of a broader initiative to assess the operational readiness of the new units and ensure that they are well-prepared to fulfill their constitutional responsibilities effectively.
