Singapore allows foreign students to work during vacations without a pass
International students in Singapore can now work during breaks without needing a work pass, according to a new list of eligible institutions.

In a significant move for international students, Singapore's Ministry of Manpower has released a list of 58 educational institutions where foreign students can work during their vacation periods without the need for a work pass. This initiative is set to ease the employment process for students looking to gain work experience while studying in the country.
To qualify for this exemption, students must meet specific criteria. They need to be full-time matriculated or registered students at one of the listed institutions, hold a valid Student's Pass issued by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), and be at least 14 years old. Importantly, students are not required to notify the authorities before they commence work, which simplifies the process significantly.
The list includes a diverse range of institutions, from prestigious universities such as the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to polytechnics, international schools, and specialized colleges. Some notable names on the list are the Singapore Management University, INSEAD, and the Singapore Institute of Technology.
However, it is crucial for students to understand that this exemption is strictly limited to vacation periods. It does not permit year-round employment while studying. Students enrolled in institutions not on the list will still need to apply for a work pass to take up any employment in Singapore.
This policy change reflects Singapore's commitment to supporting international students and enhancing their educational experience by allowing them to gain practical work experience in the local job market. The initiative is expected to benefit many students who wish to supplement their studies with relevant work experience.
In related news, Singapore has also recently announced visa-free entry for citizens from over 160 countries, further promoting its status as a welcoming destination for international visitors and students alike.
