Mohbad's Family Secures New Investigation into Singer's Death Nearly Three Years Later
The Inspector-General of Police has approved a fresh inquiry into Mohbad's death, marking a significant development for his family.

The family of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, has achieved a significant milestone in their quest for justice nearly three years after his untimely death. The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has granted their request for a new investigation into the circumstances surrounding the singer's passing.
This development comes after the family's lawyer, Oladayo Ogungbe, announced on September 29, 2026, that the case has been assigned to the Special Enquiry Bureau. The family had submitted their petition for a fresh investigation on April 14, which was officially received at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on May 7.
The petition raised critical concerns regarding the previous investigation and called for a thorough re-examination of the events leading to Mohbad's death. Following the approval from the IGP, the case was forwarded to the Lagos State Police Command for further action. The family has since been informed that officers from the Special Enquiry Bureau are now handling the investigation.
In a positive sign for the family, a representative from the Aloba family has already met with the investigative team to discuss the case. This renewed effort aims to address the lingering questions surrounding Mohbad's death, which occurred on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27.
The circumstances of Mohbad's death have been shrouded in controversy, prompting investigations from various authorities. As the new inquiry unfolds, many are hopeful that it will shed light on the unanswered questions that have persisted since his passing.
In a related development, Mohbad's father has made serious allegations against his daughter-in-law, suggesting her involvement in the singer's death. In a video that surfaced online, he claimed that Mohbad had expressed concerns about his safety in a voice note to his wife, stating that if she harmed him, she could not harm his entire family.
With the fresh investigation now underway, all eyes will be on the findings of the Special Enquiry Bureau as they work to uncover the truth behind the tragic death of one of Nigeria's beloved artists.
