Swift Telephone Network Limited launches nationwide operations after licensing
Swift Telephone Network Limited has received a Unified Access Service Licence to operate across Nigeria, marking a significant milestone in its telecom journey.

Swift Telephone Network Limited (STN) has officially entered the Nigerian telecommunications market after obtaining a Unified Access Service Licence (UASL) from the federal government. This development, announced on September 30, 2026, allows STN to provide a range of telecommunications services nationwide, positioning it alongside established operators such as MTN Nigeria, Airtel, Globacom, 9mobile, and Lebara.
The company, which traces its origins back to a small business centre established in 1998, has faced numerous challenges over the years, including a shutdown of operations in 2010 due to infrastructure losses and internal issues. However, STN has made a significant comeback since its revival in February 2017, when Managing Director and CEO Oluwole Adetuyi took the helm to rebuild the business.
In a statement regarding the new licence, Adetuyi highlighted the significance of this achievement, stating, "This licence is not the destination. It is the bridge. From a small business centre in 1998 to a UASL operator in 2026, the journey has been long. But the journey has never stopped." He emphasized that the company is now focused on expanding its services and enhancing connectivity across Nigeria.
STN has outlined its commitment to training engineers and digital professionals, forming partnerships with local vendors, and addressing the digital divide in the country. According to Yetunde Okafor, the Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs, the company's vision is to create a telecommunications enterprise that is both proudly Nigerian in its roots and competitive on a global scale. "Our ambition is clear. To build a telecommunications company that is proudly Nigerian in its roots, global in its outlook, and transformational in its impact," Okafor stated.
The company plans to unveil its strategic partnerships and nationwide rollout plans in the coming weeks, which are expected to enhance competition in Nigeria's telecoms sector. Experts believe that STN's entry could lead to improved service offerings and pricing for consumers, as the market becomes increasingly competitive.
STN's journey to this point has been marked by resilience and determination. After formally applying for the UASL on February 22, 2022, the company worked diligently to meet regulatory requirements and rebuild its operational capacity. Following the reinstatement of its licence in 2019, STN resumed operations in September of that year, laying the groundwork for its current expansion.
As STN prepares to launch its services, the company aims to connect people to opportunities and businesses to customers, thereby contributing to the broader digital future of Nigeria. With its focus on local partnerships and skill development, STN is poised to make a significant impact in the telecommunications landscape of the country.
