The Kaduna State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners has expressed deep appreciation to Governor Uba Sani for his recent approval of N3.659 billion aimed at settling gratuities and death benefits for retirees. This significant financial release is expected to provide much-needed relief to many pensioners and their families across the state.

In a letter dated September 23, 2026, and signed by the union's Chairman, Aboman Ladan, and Secretary, Alhassan Balarabe Musa, the pensioners acknowledged the governor's unwavering dedication to their welfare. The letter highlighted that the funds would benefit 1,339 individuals under both the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) and the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), marking a notable step towards addressing the financial needs of those who have served the state.

The union's letter stated, "The commitment to the welfare and dignity of those who served Kaduna State with their productive years will never be forgotten." This sentiment reflects the gratitude felt by many pensioners who have long awaited the resolution of their entitlements.

Governor Sani's recent approval not only covers the latest batch of payments but also brings the total disbursement to N21.455 billion for 9,683 beneficiaries since he took office in May 2023. The breakdown of the latest payment indicates that 210 retirees from the Local Government will receive N515 million under the Defined Benefit Scheme, while 1,129 beneficiaries under the Contributory Pension Scheme will share a total of N3.144 billion. This includes 402 retirees from the State Service and 727 retirees from Local Government Councils.

Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, emphasized that this latest financial intervention underscores the administration's commitment to addressing outstanding pension liabilities and enhancing the sustainability of Kaduna State's pension system. He reiterated that the governor views pension payments as an obligation rather than a favor, a principle that has guided his administration's approach to pension management.
