The Kano State Ministry of Education has successfully dispatched 618 students to their respective schools as part of the Northern States School Exchange Programme, coinciding with the start of the 2026/2027 academic session. This initiative aims to enhance educational opportunities for students from Kano by allowing them to experience different educational environments across the region.

The students, a mix of returning pupils and new intakes, were gathered at Rumfa College in Kano before being transported to schools in 15 out of the 19 northern states. To ensure their safety during the journey, the ministry provided official escorts for each group, tasked with accompanying the students to their destinations.

During the dispatch ceremony, Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammad, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, praised the efforts of the School Exchange Programme Committee and other officials for their commitment and effective organization of the event. He also acknowledged the support of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for the programme and other initiatives aimed at improving educational access for students in the state.

Muhammad encouraged the students to stay focused on their studies, adhere to the rules and regulations of their new schools, and represent Kano State positively. He expressed his wishes for their academic success and assured them of the ministry's ongoing support for their educational journey.

Auwal Mustapha Muhammad, the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation and Chairman of the School Exchange Programme Committee, also addressed the students, particularly emphasizing the importance of education for newly admitted Junior Secondary School (JSS) 1 pupils. He urged them to take their studies seriously and fully utilize the opportunities presented by the programme.

Additionally, Muhammad called on parents and guardians to maintain regular communication with their children and the schools to monitor their academic progress and wellbeing. He highlighted that the School Exchange Programme is designed to provide Kano students with access to quality education while broadening their educational experiences through placements in selected schools throughout northern Nigeria.

The successful commencement of this programme reflects the collaborative efforts of parents, school authorities, escorts, committee members, and other stakeholders, all of whom played vital roles in facilitating the students' journey to their new educational environments.
