A serious traffic incident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when a 40-foot container truck experienced brake failure, crashing into demarcation blocks and multiple vehicles at the exit of the Kara Bridge. The Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) reported the incident on their X handle on Tuesday, urging motorists to remain patient as recovery efforts were underway.

The crash has resulted in a significant backlog of traffic extending all the way to New Garage, causing frustration for many commuters. LASTMA confirmed that recovery and evacuation operations commenced immediately following the accident, as officers and police personnel were deployed to manage the situation and facilitate the clearance of the affected vehicles.

In addition to the container truck incident, another crash was reported on the Kara Bridge heading towards Mowe, where a loaded trailer collided with a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV). This further complicated the traffic situation on the busy expressway.

LASTMA reassured the public that all necessary measures were being taken to restore normal traffic flow. They emphasized the importance of patience among motorists during this challenging time, stating, “We implore motorists to be patient as all hands are on deck to ensure all impediments are cleared off the road.”

As the recovery efforts continue, drivers are advised to seek alternative routes if possible and to stay updated on traffic conditions to avoid further delays.
