A series of violent attacks in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State has left four people dead and one injured, prompting calls for urgent investigations and enhanced security measures from local community leaders. The latest incident occurred in Kinat community on the night of September 12, 2026, when armed assailants killed 29-year-old Katbam Titus.

The Mwaghavul Youth Movement (MYM) has voiced its outrage over the attacks, particularly highlighting the timing of the violence, which followed a security meeting held by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army. Just hours before the Kinat attack, the GOC had met with leaders from the Mwaghavul and Fulani communities, urging them to resolve their differences and assuring them of the Army's commitment to preventing violence between groups.

In a statement released on Sunday, Tubwot Joël Sunday, the Director of Public Affairs for MYM, expressed disbelief at the attack occurring so soon after the GOC's assurances. "This cannot simply be ignored," he stated, emphasizing the need for accountability and effective security responses.

The MYM reported that the violence did not stop with Titus. On September 11, Geoffrey Gumut, 55, was killed in Kikyau, with reports indicating that his head had not been recovered. Additionally, 45-year-old Danjuma Kyesle was attacked and severely injured in Larkas, Panyam District, while 50-year-old Pius Dachen and 25-year-old Zadok Irmiya were killed in Ntul, Mangu District, on September 10.

The series of attacks has raised significant concerns about the safety of residents and the effectiveness of security operations in the area. The MYM has called for thorough investigations into the incidents, particularly the Larkas attack, where security personnel were reportedly present during the assault. They urged that any allegations of negligence or failure of duty be investigated thoroughly.

In their statement, the MYM underscored the need for the Federal Government, the Plateau State Government, and security agencies to enhance protective measures for vulnerable communities and disrupt the activities of armed groups. They also appealed to Fulani leaders to assist in promoting peace by identifying and condemning violent elements within their ranks.

The Mwaghavul community remains committed to fostering peace and coexistence, but they warned that this commitment should not come at the expense of their safety. The movement expressed condolences to the families of the victims and called for prayers for the recovery of those injured in these brutal attacks.
