A devastating accident involving a container truck and a bus on the Berger Bridge along the Ibeju-Lekki Expressway in Lagos State has resulted in the deaths of four individuals and left 16 others injured. The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as reported by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

According to LASEMA, the articulated truck was transporting a 20-foot container when it collided with a Toyota Hiace bus, which bore the registration number GME-589 ZU. Preliminary investigations indicated that the truck was travelling at an excessive speed when the driver lost control while attempting to avoid a collision, leading to the truck overturning onto the bus.

The impact of the crash was severe, resulting in the immediate deaths of four adult males at the scene. Sixteen other adult males sustained various degrees of injuries and were promptly attended to by emergency responders. LASEMA's Beta Whales Team from Epe Base was dispatched to the site following a distress call regarding the accident. The team collaborated with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police Force to secure the area, provide first aid, and transport the injured to Epe General Hospital for further medical care.

In response to the ongoing recovery efforts, LASEMA has arranged for a private crane to assist in the removal of the overturned truck and container. Traffic management measures have also been implemented to ensure safety along the affected route while recovery operations continue.

The Lagos State Government expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a swift recovery. In addition to this tragic incident, LASEMA reported handling two other road accidents on the same day. One involved a truck that crashed into a solar-powered streetlight in Agege, while another incident in Igando saw a DAF truck collide with a Toyota Corolla due to reckless driving.

The government, led by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, reiterated its commitment to enhancing emergency management services and ensuring the safety of lives and property on the roads. Motorists are urged to adhere to speed limits, avoid reckless driving, and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on journeys. Residents are also encouraged to report emergencies through the state's toll-free lines to facilitate timely responses.
