Media personality, Dotun has condemned the practice of burying deceased individuals within residential buildings, labeling it "archaic and primitive."
Dotun made his stance known amid an ongoing family dispute surrounding the burial of the late gospel singer, Toluwanisings. The singer's widow, Elizabeth, is reportedly at loggerheads with her in-laws over his final resting place. While she insists on a cemetery burial, the late singer's paternal family strongly demands that he be buried inside the house he built before his demise.
The situation has triggered a wider debate among Nigerians on social media. While some support the family's traditional stance, others argue that burying a body on the property significantly depreciates the economic value of the house and makes it unlivable for future tenants or buyers. Joining the faction against the family's wishes, Dotun publicly knocked the tradition, maintaining that residential homes should not double as burial grounds in modern times.
