Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has officially enacted five significant bills aimed at enhancing worker welfare and improving governance within the state. The most notable among these is the 13th Month Salary Law, which is designed to boost the morale of public servants and reward their contributions to the state’s development.

The signing ceremony took place at the Executive Council Chambers in Asaba, where Governor Oborevwori emphasized that these legislative changes are part of his administration's commitment to the MORE Agenda, which focuses on reforms across various sectors. He stated that the new laws would not only strengthen public institutions but also enhance service delivery and stimulate economic growth in Delta State.

In addition to the 13th Month Salary Law, the governor signed amendments to increase the number of judges in the High Court from 46 to 50, and in the Customary Court of Appeal from nine to 12. This move aims to improve the efficiency of the judicial system and ensure timely justice delivery for the citizens of Delta State.

Another significant piece of legislation is the Public and Private Properties Protection Amendment Law, which is intended to bolster protections against unlawful occupation and destruction of properties. This law seeks to provide a clearer framework for safeguarding both public and private assets, thus promoting a more secure environment for investment and development.

The Delta State Revenue Service (Consolidated) Law, 2026, was also enacted to streamline tax administration, reduce instances of multiple taxation, and foster a more conducive atmosphere for business investments in the state. Governor Oborevwori highlighted that effective tax administration is crucial for economic growth and sustainability.

During the ceremony, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, reiterated that these laws are essential for strengthening governance and protecting investments in the state. He pointed out that the 13th Month Salary Law specifically benefits eligible public servants, while the judicial amendments aim to enhance the overall efficiency of the court system.

The outgoing Delta Head of Service, Dr. Mininim Oseji, praised the introduction of the 13th Month Salary Law, calling it a significant boost to workers' welfare and family well-being. She expressed her gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for this initiative, noting its potential to stimulate business activities and improve the quality of life for Deltans.

The signing event was attended by key judicial figures, including the Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice Tessy Diai, along with various senior government officials and members of the House of Assembly, all of whom witnessed this pivotal moment in Delta's legislative history.
