A tragic incident occurred in Enugu State on Sunday morning when an uncompleted four-storey building collapsed, resulting in one confirmed death. The collapse happened around 6 a.m. in the Independence Layout area, prompting immediate action from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

NEMA's Director-General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, swiftly mobilized an Emergency Rescue Team to the site after receiving reports of the incident. According to a statement from NEMA, the agency coordinated the response efforts alongside several other organizations, including the Enugu State Emergency Management Agency, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Enugu State Fire and Rescue Service.

Upon arrival, rescue teams discovered that several individuals were trapped under the rubble. To aid in the search and rescue operations, an excavator was brought in to assist with the debris removal. As of 11:20 a.m., the joint rescue team successfully recovered the body of a male victim from the collapsed structure. NEMA confirmed that rescue operations were still ongoing at the time of the report, with teams continuing to search for any additional victims who may still be trapped.
