The Nigerian Muslim Community in Ireland is mourning the loss of Imam Abdul-Ganiy Adeleke Asubiaro, affectionately known as Alfa Gani, who passed away on September 6, 2026. Imam Asubiaro was recognized for his significant contributions to the Nigerian Islamic community, having been instrumental in the founding of various Islamic organizations across multiple counties. His annual Ramadan family lectures were particularly notable, addressing critical issues faced by Muslim families and promoting positive parenting in line with Islamic teachings while also considering modern societal challenges.

Described by his peers as a bridge-builder and a trusted mediator, Imam Asubiaro was often sought after for his ability to resolve disputes within families and community groups. His calm demeanor and honest communication made him a respected figure among those who knew him.

Following his death, Imam Asubiaro was laid to rest on September 11, 2026. His final resting place is at the Drogheda Muslim Cemetery. Community members gathered for condolences shortly after the burial at the St Fechin’s GAA grounds in Termonfeckin, honoring his memory and offering prayers for his family.
