Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on participants of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy to evaluate their leadership effectiveness by the tangible solutions they provide to society. This message was delivered during the final mentorship session for the 2025/2026 cohort, held at Lagos House, Marina.

During the session, Sanwo-Olu engaged the young leaders in discussions about the realities of public leadership, decision-making, and service delivery. He emphasized that effective leadership should be measured by its outcomes rather than merely the act of leading itself. The governor stated, "effective leadership is ultimately measured by the solutions it delivers and the impact it creates."

Sanwo-Olu further encouraged the fellows to embrace ongoing learning and to remain patient throughout their leadership journeys. He highlighted the importance of maintaining the relationships and networks they have built during their fellowship, urging them to contribute to a robust alumni community that fosters collaboration in public service.

The mentorship session coincided with the fellows presenting their policy recommendations on pressing issues facing Lagos State. These proposals aimed to provide actionable insights on how emerging leaders can contribute to the state's development, moving beyond theoretical knowledge to practical applications in governance.

Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, the Executive Secretary of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, expressed gratitude towards Governor Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering support of youth development initiatives in Lagos. She noted that the session allowed the fellows to gain valuable insights from the governor's extensive experience in public leadership.

Abdulazeez Olumide Abdulazeez, the President of the 2025/2026 cohort, also thanked the governor and other officials for facilitating direct access to influential leaders in governance. This interaction is seen as a crucial opportunity for the fellows to better understand the responsibilities associated with public leadership.

The Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, named after Lagos State’s first civilian governor, aims to cultivate young individuals capable of influencing Nigeria's future. The academy's curriculum emphasizes not only technical skills but also integrity, innovation, ethical decision-making, critical thinking, and resilience, preparing young leaders to address complex societal challenges effectively.
