The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), alongside the Ogun Joint Campus Committee (JCC) and the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS), have publicly endorsed Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, also known as YAYI, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the upcoming 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.

In a press conference held on Monday, the student leaders expressed their strong backing for Adeola, emphasizing that he had been chosen as the consensus candidate for the party. They cautioned Hon. Abayomi Semako Hunye against claiming the governorship ticket, labeling his actions as attempts to sow discord within the ruling party. The statement was jointly signed by Comrade Olubodun Olalekan, the National President of NAOSS, and Comrade Habeeblahi Adekunle Tijani, Chairman of NANS JCC Ogun.

The student bodies asserted that the APC had made a strategic decision in favor of Adeola to promote unity and continuity within the party. They urged Hunye to reconsider his ambitions and seek the governorship nomination through an alternative political platform if he was dissatisfied with the APC's decision.

Accusations were also directed at Hunye, with the student groups alleging that he was being manipulated by opposition forces and disgruntled politicians aiming to destabilize Ogun State. They highlighted the peace and development experienced under Governor Dapo Abiodun's administration, warning that any attempts to disrupt this stability would not be tolerated.

The student leaders pointed out that there had been efforts from certain individuals within the APC to undermine Adeola’s candidacy, referencing past instances of anti-party activities and recent controversies linked to a leaked audio recording. However, they did not provide any independent evidence to support these claims.

The endorsement of Adeola was attributed to his significant contributions to education and youth development in Ogun State. The student bodies cited various initiatives, including projects in tertiary institutions, scholarships, and empowerment programs, as evidence of his commitment to the welfare of students and youth in the region. They stated, "Senator YAYI, as the bona fide APC governorship candidate, has facilitated several projects that have directly enhanced education development across Ogun State."

NANS and NAOSS reiterated their belief in the supremacy of party decisions and called for unity among APC members in support of Adeola. They expressed their readiness to respond if political maneuvers threatened the peace of Ogun State. Reflecting on the historical role of students in Nigeria's democratic struggles, they urged all political aspirants, including Hunye, to accept the party's decision and focus on the state's progress rather than engage in actions that could escalate political tensions.

The student leaders concluded their statement by encouraging APC members and Ogun residents to disregard what they termed Hunye’s "political distractions," affirming their unwavering support for Adeola’s governorship bid. "The train has left the station, and it is headed to victory with Senator YAYI at the helm," they declared.
