The Dangote Petroleum Refinery's initiative offering free petrol delivery has garnered significant praise from independent marketers across Nigeria, who believe it could alleviate operational pressures and lower pump prices for consumers. This initiative aims to enhance the distribution of petroleum products, making them more accessible to retailers while also reducing the logistical burdens that marketers face.

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has voiced strong support for the program, particularly following its recent expansion to states such as Imo and Anambra. IPMAN's National Publicity Secretary, Chinedu Ukadike, highlighted that this arrangement could significantly ease the financial strain that marketers experience when sourcing and transporting fuel. He noted that many marketers often pay for their products upfront but face delays in receiving their orders, which can tie up their capital and create additional financial stress.

“This gesture, if sustained, will be able to alleviate the sufferings of independent marketers,” Ukadike stated, emphasizing how the initiative has streamlined product distribution and enabled quicker recovery of investments for marketers. He also pointed out that the reduction in transportation costs could lead to lower petrol prices at filling stations, benefiting consumers directly.

The initiative is particularly timely as motorists are closely monitoring petrol prices amid ongoing fluctuations in the downstream petroleum market. By reducing the logistical costs associated with long-distance transportation, independent marketers may find themselves in a better position to compete on retail prices while sustaining their businesses.

Despite the positive feedback, IPMAN is urging Dangote Refinery to extend the free delivery scheme to northern states, where disparities in petrol pricing have been exacerbated by transportation costs. Ukadike remarked, “We are also appealing to them to extend it further to other states, especially those in the northern areas, so that petroleum products will be bought uniformly.” He underscored that such an expansion would promote greater uniformity in petrol prices across the country.

The refinery has been proactive in enhancing its distribution network as part of its commitment to making petroleum products more readily available throughout Nigeria. Recently, it reduced its petrol ex-depot price from ₦1,215 to ₦1,165 per litre, effective August 6, 2026, as part of its efforts to make fuel more affordable for consumers.

As the Dangote Refinery continues to broaden its delivery model, both marketers and consumers stand to benefit from a more efficient and cost-effective distribution system, potentially leading to lower and more stable pump prices across Nigeria.
