The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recent Osun State election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has expressed his reluctance to accept the results that saw him defeated by the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party. In a statement made to State House correspondents after a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Oyebamiji stated that he is still in the process of reviewing the election results.

In the election, Adeleke secured 511,067 votes, defeating Oyebamiji, who garnered 444,815 votes. The results indicated that Adeleke won in 19 out of the 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji managed to win in 11 councils. Despite this, Oyebamiji has not conceded defeat, indicating that his party is still examining the official results before making any public statements.

President Tinubu, who had previously congratulated Adeleke on his victory, reaffirmed his acknowledgment of the results when the governor visited him at the Presidential Villa. However, Oyebamiji has urged his supporters to remain calm and peaceful, emphasizing the importance of civility in the political process.

Addressing concerns about violence, Oyebamiji alleged that APC members have faced physical attacks from supporters of the Adeleke administration. He called on Governor Adeleke to take responsibility and communicate with his supporters to prevent further unrest. "Violence against our people is not too good, and he needs to talk to them so that each and every one of us can be on the same page," he remarked, highlighting incidents of violence that have reportedly occurred in his home village of Ikire.

Oyebamiji's comments reflect a tense political atmosphere in Osun State, as the APC navigates the aftermath of the election. He reiterated the need for peace, stating, "It is important for us as Nigerians to know that government is about people, and because it is about people, it is important that we need to be peaceful."

As the APC continues its review of the election results, Oyebamiji's call for calm and unity among party members may play a crucial role in shaping the party's next steps in response to the election outcome.
